According to the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020 “it is essential that all professional educators acknowledge that the world in which they live today, and the world that their students will enter as adults, is radically different from what existed in even the fairly recent decade. Teachers must be able to prepare students for their future in a manner that assures that all students will not simply survive, but truly thrive in the world that awaits them.” (2006). The Texas Long Range Plan has a Educator and Preparation and Development component which is critical to ensure we are preparing the students for the world as it is now and their future. The plan identifies that all educators need to have a preparation program that includes current technology, they develop learning atmospheres that include technology for the learners through integration, and exit programs ensure that educators are effective in integrating technology.

In analyzing the Texas Campus STaR Chart Summary for my campus, Educator Preparation and Development was our lowest scoring area. The other key areas have improved over the last several years, whereas this area decreased. Educator Preparation and Development is also weak according to the campus statewide summary. 74% of the campus are in the developing area, while only 20% are in the advanced or target areas. Without teachers being effectively trained in how to use the technology as well as how to integrate into the classroom, we are not reaching the children and therefore the other goals of the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology. Professional Development and in class support of integration of technology for educators needs to be a top priority.
